This electric clock from my collection was made in 1866.  It worked, but never made its inventor a penny.  Vested interests in the mechanical clock business did not take kindly to this bit of future intruding into their world. 
 
Fifty years later, it still looked modern.   Sometimes it takes a long time for humans to take advantage of new technology;  meanwhile, the cost of barriers created by vested interests is carried by the rest of us.

There are times in business when you have to admit you are on to a hiding to nothing.
